Trick-or-treating on Halloween in the Village

Find out what's happening in Western Springsfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Unofficial trick-or-treating hours in Western Springs are from 3 p.m. through 8 p.m., as recommended by the Western Springs Police Department.

A Village flyer notes that while "in recent years, many parents have replaced traditional trick-or-treating with parties and information get-togethers... it is still a night for drivers to be especially alert for little ghosts and goblins."

The same flyer gives the following advice for trick-or-treaters:

  • Go in groups, never alone.
  • Wear costumes that do not obstruct vision and are visible in the dark.
  • Carry a flashlight after sunset.
  • Stay on sidewalks.
  • Cross streets carefully, only at corners.
  • Stay within your local neighborhood.
  • Only approach homes with outdoor lights on.
  • Have parents check candy/treats first. Eat nothing that has not been securely sealed.
  • Refrain from vandalism, a crime for which Halloween is not an excuse.
