Pillars Elects Board Members from Western Springs

Rachel Shaw Callahan, Matthew McNaughton and Julie Porter will join the Board of Directors.

LA GRANGE PARK, IL β€” This month, Pillars welcomes three new members to its Board of Directors.

Pillars is the largest nonprofit provider of mental health and social services in the western and southwestern suburbs, serving approximately 12,000 people each year. The volunteer board is charged with providing oversight and direction, and working to ensure Pillars has resources to fulfill its mission. The board also helps ensure the communities Pillars serves are aware of the numerous programs and services available to residents in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

The new members include Rachel Shaw Callahan, Matthew McNaughton, and Julie Porter, all of Western Springs:

Rachel Shaw Callahan is associate director and people operations lead at Crowe Horwath.
She has over 17 years of human resources experience (the last six with Crowe Horwath). She is also a board member with the Village Club of Western Springs, a member of the Parent Enrichment Board at Grand Avenue School, and on the Community Outreach Committee for First Congregational Church of Western Springs. Callahan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources from Michigan State University, a PHR certification with the Human Resources Certification Institute, and a SHRM-CP certification from the Society of Human Resources Management. Of her election to the Pillars Board, she says: β€œI feel I can make a difference by assisting in creating more awareness of this amazing organization, the many services it provides, and the countless people it helps in our community.”

Matthew McNaughton is a construction partner at McNaughton Brothers Construction, LLC, and a senior property manager at Woodland Park Properties, both in Burr Ridge. Matt brings extensive knowledge of facilities management, finance, and the real estate industry. McNaughton Brothers Construction, founded by Matthew and his brother William McNaughton III, specializes in high-end family homes and remodel projects and is an extension of the original family business (W.H. McNaughton Builders). Prior to working in construction, McNaughton provided financial services at First Trust Portfolios in Wheaton. He holds a Bachelor of Business Science, Finance, from Ohio University. Of his election to the Pillars Board, he says: β€œPillars makes a true difference in the community by providing more than 25 different programs, and I’m honored to have been elected to the Board of Directors. I look forward to assisting this organization in remaining stable, balanced, and focused.”

Julie Porter is a nurse practitioner at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, playing a key role in helping to find resources for patients and delivering care focused on the whole person. Prior to working at Loyola, she held nursing roles at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora; Metropolitan Cardiac Surgeons in Hinsdale; Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale; and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Ne. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa and a Master of Science in Nursing from Saint Xavier University. She is also licensed and board certified. Of her election to the Pillars Board, Porter says: β€œI believe the purpose of life is to help, care for, and nurture others. Pillars fulfills this purpose by assisting people of all ages when they are in their most vulnerable moments. I am looking forward to supporting the continued development of services offered to our community.”

Pillars Board Chair Zada Clarke says she is delighted to welcome the new members to the board, as they each bring needed talents and skills. β€œMatt will help us with our facilities and financial management; Julie will help us think more broadly about how we link our behavioral health and addictions programs to hospitals and medical practices; and Rachel will be an asset in the areas of organization effectiveness and employee relations,” says Clarke.

In addition to the new members, the board recently voted to reelect its board officers, including:

  • Chair: Zada Clarke of Western Springs, Human Resources Consultant
  • Vice Chair: Jennifer Hogberg of Indian Head Park, Consultant at Revenue Storm
  • Vice Chair: Sara Mikuta of Western Springs, Director at Wipfli, LLP
  • Secretary: Sheila Eswaran of Hinsdale, Physician at Rush University Medical Center
  • Treasurer: William R. Kopp of La Grange Park, Senior Vice President and Senior Lender at Northern Trust
