Resident's Biting Dog Leaves Village Employee With 2 Stitches: Western Springs Police

The dog's owner was unaware there was somebody else in the backyard.

A Western Springs village employee was injured by a resident's dog while working in the 600 block of Courtland Circle within the past week, police reported.

The water meter reader had entered a backyard to read a meter when a collie/terrier mix was let loose into the yard, according to Western Springs Police Sergeant John Piest. The owner didn't know she was letting out her dog while someone else was in the backyard.

The dog bit the meter reader on the thigh, Piest said, and was taken to the hospital to get stitches for the wound. Although the case wasn't criminal in nature, the resident was cited for having a fierce/biting dog and the case was reported to Cook County Animal and Rabies Control.
