These 2 Chicago Suburbs Are America's Safest And Richest Cities: Ranking

Four Chicago suburbs made the top 30 list, including three in the top five.

CHICAGO — The Chicago suburbs came out on top in a recent ranking of America’s safest and richest cities.

The analysis by personal finance website GOBankingRates put three Chicago area communities in its top five. A total of four northern and western suburbs made the national list of 30 cities.

To determine the ranking, GOBankingRates assessed data points including population, average household income, cost of living indexes and crime rates.

No. 1 on the list was Western Springs, which has an average household income of $276,402, a violent crime rate of zero per 1,000 people, and a property crime rate of 3.72 per 1,000.

Kenilworth came in at No. 2 with an average income of $437,822, a violent crime rate of zero per 1,000, and a property crime rate of 3.33 per 1,000.

Two Massachusetts communities — Lexington and Winchester — were third and fourth, respectively, and Winnetka was fifth, with an average income of $458,988, a violent crime rate of 0.65 and a property crime rate of 7.66.

The last Chicago suburb to make the list was Wilmette at 17th, with an average income of $273,718, a violent crime rate of 0.37 and a property crime rate of 12.53.

All the Chicago communities in the ranking had relatively small populations.

California and Massachusetts tied for most cities on the list, with seven each. New Jersey had six.
