WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A carjacking involving five suspects in downtown Western Springs was the top local story in 2024.

Carjacking In Downtown Western Springs: Cops (Aug. 26): A carjacking was reported early Sunday morning in downtown Western Springs as a driver was withdrawing cash at an ATM drive-thru, local police said. Five people got out of the dark SUV, at least three of whom were armed with handguns, police said.

4. Armed Road Rage In Western Springs: Cops (April 17): Roberto Carlos, 22, of Cicero, was arrested Thursday on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon. Police said he displayed a weapon in a road rage incident at Ogden and Howard avenues.

5. Townhomes Planned for Western Springs (Aug. 12): A Burr Ridge developer plans a townhome complex in Western Springs, replacing an office building. McNaughton Development is proposing eight townhome buildings, consisting of 29 units. They would be at 5600 Wolf Road, where an office building now sits.

6. Western Springs Disturbance Leads To Arrest: Cops (Jan. 16): Officers were called about 9 p.m. Wednesday to the 3800 block of Lawn Avenue for a disturbance. It was discovered the suspect was an 18-year-old Countryside man who had been previously issued a no-trespass warning for the property in question.

7. LTHS Leader Resigns Effective Immediately (April 2): Lyons Township High School's board president resigned effective immediately Tuesday morning. Dawn Aubert, who took the helm last spring, was elected to the board in 2021. She is leaving because she plans to move out of state, according to a school news release.

8. Western Springs Cocktail Bar Opening (Jan. 4): Western Springs resident Dan Schovain is about ready to achieve a goal he has been working on since before the pandemic. On Friday, Jan. 12, he plans to open The Opry at 4354 Johnson Ave. in Western Springs.

9. Western Springs Woman Arrested In Hinsdale (March 27): A 55-year-old Western Springs woman who lives in the 10 block of 39th Street was arrested in Hinsdale on a charge of domestic battery. The incident was about 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Princeton Road in Hinsdale.

10. Porn Site May Be Tied To Western Springs Scam: Cops (Feb. 28): A pornographic website may be to blame for a Western Springs couple's loss of $30,000 in a scam, authorities said.
