We All Scream for Ice Cream—And Western Springs Has the Numbers to Prove It
According to a recent report by Crain's Chicago Business, Western Springs residents spend nearly twice as much on ice cream than the national average.
It would appear Western Springs residents love their ice cream significantly more than the average American.
In advance of National Ice Cream Day this Sunday, Crain’s Chicago Business has released data about how much money each suburbs spends on ice cream, via an interactive map that shows ice cream spending by ZIP code.
Western Springs exceeded the national average of 100 with an index of 191, nearly doubling it. (Perhaps is just that delicious? Or is it the frozen foods section at ?)

That blows away La Grange (134), La Grange Park (125), Westchester (120) and even Oak Brook (154), but falls slightly short of Hinsdale (201.) But nothing can compare with the wealthy and apparently ice-cream ravenous folks in Cook County's Kenilworth, who put up a thunderous score of 275.

If an area has an index of 105, then people there spent 5 percent more that the national average (an index of 95 means the area spent 5 percent less).
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month—falling this year on Sunday, July 15—as National Ice Cream Day.
