Western Springs Flood-Prone Area To Get Relief

Most of the project will be paid with a stormwater fee that the village imposed in 2023.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A Western Springs neighborhood that has seen flooding over the years is poised to get relief.

On Monday, the Village Board plans to vote on a construction contract for drainage improvements to the Springdale neighborhood in southwest Western Springs.

The low bidder was Plano-based Performance Construction & Engineering, at $5.2 million.

The project drew four bids, with the highest at $6.4 million.

The project includes installing new storm sewers and inlets in the 5400 block of Howard and Franklin avenues. New pipes would be laid to send stormwater to Springdale Park, where the village plans to build a facility to store it.

Most of the project will be paid through the stormwater fee that the village imposed on residents a couple of years ago.

The village said it is also getting a $1 million grant for the work from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

A Ridgewood flooding project is also expected to start this year.
