Western Springs Historical Society Presents Lecture, Awards Nominations, Reception

Throughout the month of February, WSHS is accepting nominations for its Biennial Preservation Awards.

Western Springs, IL - The Western Springs Historical Society, announces an upcoming lecture, preservation awards nominations and a member reception all taking place between now and the end of February.

Lecture

Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. on the second floor of the Grand Avenue Community Center, WSHS President Vicki Lezon presents a FREE lecture on the historical neighborhoods of Western Springs. This event is for those who might have wondered about the history of a specific home, or why the neighborhoods are named as they are. After the talk, attendees can peruse the Society’s Archives. Volunteers will be on hand to help look up specific homes and make copies.

Preservation Awards

Throughout the month of February, WSHS is accepting nominations for its Biennial Preservation Awards. Winners will be announced at the upcoming MayFest taking place on Sunday, May 1. Nomination forms are available at westernspringshistory.org, or at the Thomas Ford Library, Western Springs Recreation Center and Grand Avenue. Anyone can nominate a home in the following three classifications: Preservation/Exterior Rehabilitation, Compatible Addition and The Good Neighbor Award given to new structures built with sensitivity to surroundings.

Members Reception

The WSHS loves its members and will acknowledge them at a Reception on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 7-9 p.m. This invitation only event features a gathering at the Tower Museum, followed by a private tour, and the reveal of a new timeline wall mural. Board members will host this champagne reception open to the nearly 300 members of the WSHS. To become a member, visit westernspringshistory.org/get-involved/become-a-member/
