Western Springs Man Charged With Stalking Judge

A Western Springs man charged with stalking a DuPage County judge who presided over his court case earlier this year is expected to have his bond hearing this week, according to a Daily Herald report Monday.

John Euwema, 57, is alleged to have sent "a book, letter and cash" to the family of Judge Kathryn Creswell, the Herald reported last week, after the judge was assigned to preside over a case involving Euwema. 

The Western Springs resident had been charged in May with aggravated driving with revoked license after a traffic stop in Elmhurst while he was out on parole after pleading guilty to aggravated drunk driving.

Euwema pleaded guilty to driving with a revoked license in September. Creswell sentenced him to 90 days in jail. On the day he was sentenced, the Herald reported last week, he emailed Creswell's husband about "hiring him for unspecified work."

During a search of Euwema's office recently, police found a number of news articles related to Creswell's family and a box of ammunition, Monday's Herald story cites prosecutors as saying.

Euwema is due back in court Wednesday, when a bond hearing could be held, the Herald reports. However, Judge John Kinsella has recused himself from hearing the case due to his being a judge in the felony court that is presided over by Creswell.

Chief Judge John Elsner has yet to decide if he will assign a different DuPage judge or ask for a judge from a different county.
