Western Springs Officials Investigating Saturday House Fire
Nobody was injured in the blaze.
Western Springs firefighters are investigating the cause of a house fire that took place Saturday in the 4000 block of Woodland Avenue.
The fire department responded to a call about the fire at 1:28 p.m. Jan. 21, according to a village release. When they reached the home, the first floor was filled with moderate smoke and the lower level of the house was choked with heavy black smoke. Firefighters were able to put out the fire with extinguishers.
After investigating, officials determined the fire had originated in the house's mechanical room in the basement. While fire damage was limited to the basement, officials said, the rest of the house saw smoke damage.

According to the release, the home was well-ventilated. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
The homeowner was in the house when the fire started, but nobody was injured in the blaze or in putting it out.
