Western Springs Police Reports: Arson, Burglary, Property Damage

Western Springs Police Department provided crime and arrest information through July 5.

Someone intentionally damaged an exterior window on the west side of Field Park School in the 4300 block of Howard Avenue between 2 p.m. June 24 and 9 a.m. June 27. The window was damaged with a small pellet-type projectile.

Someone entered an unlocked detached residential garage and removed a boy’s bicycle in the 4200 block of Howard Avenue. The burglary reportedly occurred between 11:30 p.m. July 3 and 9 a.m. July 4. The bicycle was valued at $1,000.

Someone intentionally damaged a portable restroom located at the upper level of Spring Rock Park on July 4 at about 10:30 p.m. The damaged was likely caused by a firework-type device, and the Western Springs Fire Department assisted with the investigation. There were no reported injuries.

Lisa N. Nakutis-Pelton, 23 of the 5100 block of Vinings Estates Way in Mableton, Georgia, was arrested June 22 and charged with misdemeanor theft after a follow-up investigation confirmed that she stole a laptop computer from a residence that originally occurred June 12 at the 4100 block of Johnson Avenue. Nakutis-Pelton was a visitor in the residence on the date of the theft.

Chad W. Gemkow, 20 of the 800 block of Robinhood Lane in La Grange, was arrested June 27 and issued three local ordinance citations after police saw a suspicious occupied car parked in the lower level of Spring Rock Park after posted park closing time. Arresting officer smelled a strong odor of burnt cannabis coming from inside the car. Further investigation confirmed Gemkow was in possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia and alcohol.
