Western Springs Police Reports: Home Burglary, DUI, Theft

Western Springs Police Department provided crime and arrest information through June 20.

Iran Garcia, 31 of the 13000 block of Burley in Chicago, was stopped June 13 for improper lane usage at Ogden and Central avenues. The arresting officer reported Garcia had glassy eyes and there was the smell of alcohol on his breath. Garcia was offered and performed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.

Police received a complaint of a parked car blocking a residential driveway. The arresting officer saw Luis M. Olmeda, 44 of the 900 block of Winfield Drive in Manteno, asleep in the driver’s seat. Officers knocked on the window and Olmeda eventually woke up and was asked to get out of the car. There was an open can of beer in the center console, police reported. The officer smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on Olmeda's breath. He was offered and performed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.

Someone forced entry into an unoccupied home in the 4400 block of Franklin Avenue and reportedly removed jewelry from a second-floor bedroom along with several video games and DVDs in the basement. The offender got inside by breaking a back door window and unlocking the door. The burglary occurred June 14 between 8:50 and 10:20 a.m.

Someone stole an unlocked men’s bicycle that was left unattended outside a store in the 4700 block of Gilbert Avenue. The theft reportedly occurred on June 15 between 11 and 11:10 a.m. The bicycle was valued at $450.

Someone entered an unlocked car parked on a residential driveway and reportedly removed a wallet containing about $25 in cash and various credit cards and personal documents. The stolen wallet had a value of $580. The burglary occurred sometime between 4:30 p.m. June 15 and 7:33 a.m. June 16 in the 3900 block of Grand Avenue.

Someone entered two unlocked cars parked on a residential driveway but reportedly did not remove any items from either car. The burglaries occurred sometime between 9:45 p.m. June 15 and 10:45 a.m. June 16 in the 3900 block of Grand Avenue.

Someone reportedly damaged a parked in the 4700 block of Gilbert Avenue by intentionally scratching the front end with a sharp instrument. The incident occurred on June 18 between 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
