Western Springs Residents Lose More Than $19K to Identity Thefts

The suspects tried to steal large amounts of money from two residents last week.

Two identity thefts were reported in Western Springs last week, both of which had relatively high dollar losses attached to them.

Police responded to the first complaint of identity theft around 10 a.m. Jan. 23. A resident living in the 5200 block of Caroline Avenue said someone had tried to open a small business loan in their name, according to police reports.

In the second case, a Western Springs resident living in the 5300 block of Fair Elms Avenue told police at 11:19 a.m. Jan. 27 that someone had issued a $19,000 check from their investment account.

No one has been arrested for the thefts as of Monday, Jan. 30. Police continue to investigate these incidents, and Patch will keep you updated.
