Bonita Bowls To Host Grand Opening At Downtown Wheaton Location

WHEATON, IL — Bonita Bowls will welcome its first franchise store in downtown Wheaton with a grand opening on Nov. 8. The event will offer free smoothie bowls to the first 50 customers.

Founded by St. Charles native Kyle Kissane, Bonita Bowls serves up açai bowls, poke bowls, wraps and more, with a focus on generous helpings of fresh, healthful ingredients. Kissane opened the first Bonita Bowls location in Elmhurst, followed shortly after by a Downers Grove store that opened its doors in May 2022. The Downers Grove Bonita Bowls opened in 2023.

A new Bonita Bowls recently opened in Lemont. There are also stores in Glen Ellyn, Park Ridge and LaGrange.

"We definitely are very conscious of all these dietary restrictions," Bonita Bowls founder Kyle Kissane told Patch ahead of the Downers Grove opening. Kissane said he grew up with a brother who is gluten-intolerant.

The eatery's menu is anchored by several smoothie bowl options, including acai, pitaya and coconut. Kissane said the acai and pitaya are blended in-house without relying on artificial or refined sugars for sweetness.

Diners can choose their preferred base and then pile their smoothie bowls with strawberries, honey, almond butter, kiwi and their gluten-free blueberry flax granola, which Kissane calls "phenomenal."

Other standout items at Bonita Bowls include customizable poke bowls, fresh smoothies, wraps and salads.

The Wheaton Bonita Bowls is located at 101 W. Front St. downtown.
