Coworking Space With Café Proposed For Former Carlson's Hardware Spot
The planning and zoning board will review the special use permit request Tuesday.

WHEATON, IL — The Wheaton Planning and Zoning Board will review a special use permit request Tuesday during a public hearing for a proposal to open a coworking space and café at the former home of Carlson Hardware at 125 E. Front St.
Petitioners CrossFunction, LLC, plan to occupy the first floor with the café, coworking area and conference rooms. City documents show the second floor would comprise a kitchen, conference room and a space to make copies.
Currently, Wheaton has three coworking spaces downtown: Team Up on Liberty Drive, The Kilns Coworking and Social House on Wesley Street and My Half of the Sky, also on Wesley Street.

CrossFunction, LLC, currently has a flexible workspace location at 1033 S. Blvd. in Oak Park. According to planning and zoning documents, the Wheaton coworking space would "mirror" the Oak Park location.
If the project is approved, EP Doyle & Son, LLC , aims to begin construction in early 2026. The proposed renovations are expected to last up to nine months.
