Fatal Crash Involves Motorcycle, Minivan On Butterfield Road: Wheaton Police

The 84-year-old minivan driver was taken to an area hospital.

WHEATON, IL — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a minivan at Butterfield Road and Herrick Road Wednesday morning, police said.

Wheaton police and the Wheaton Fire Department responded to the crash at 10:05 a.m. and found a 22-year-old motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries, police said. He was taken by Warrenville paramedics to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he died of his injuries. His name has not yet been released.

The driver of the minivan, an 84-year-old woman, was taken to Central DuPage Hospital by Wheaton paramedics as a precaution, police said. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Following the crash, there was a "large police presence," according to a city alert, and drivers were encouraged to find alternative routes.

Butterfield Road was closed at the Herrick Road intersection, and eastbound traffic on Butterfield was closed between Herrick and Winfield Roads. Traffic was reduced to a single lane heading west on Butterfield near the site of the crash.

The road closures remained in place for four and a half hours as Wheaton police and the MERIT Major Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.

Police said the crash remains under investigation, and no further information is being released.

"We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and community members impacted by this tragic crash," police said in a news release.
