WHEATON, IL — Local residents whose travels include using the Creekside Drive bridge will need to make alterations to their route beginning next week as crews begin working to replace the bridge, city officials recently announced.

Work crews have already started preliminary efforts to replace the Creekside Drive bridge over Spring Brook Creek. Beginning on Aug. 7, a detour around the project area will begin and work will be ongoing on Creekside Drive between Spring Green Drive and Gone Away Lane, the city said in a news release.

Drivers are asked to drive with caution in the work area while crews are completing the preliminary work being done around the bridge.

City officials said that based on its age, the bridge is reaching the end of its useful life and is due to be replaced. Preliminary work began Monday, and the city expects work to continue on the bridge through Nov. 1. The project includes relocating utilities, removing the old bridge structure, installing new bridge supports, beams, and decking, and restoring disrupted landscaping.

The bridge will closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project.
