Gary Avenue To Reopen This Week In Wheaton

Crews are set to reopen the roadway to bidirectional traffic between Jewell Road and Harrison Avenue.

WHEATON, IL —If weather permits, the stretch of Gary Avenue between Jewell Road and Harrison Avenue will reopen to bidirectional traffic Wednesday.

Crews are set to add temporary striping before the street reopens. In the coming weeks, work will continue on the roadway surface and a new traffic light will be put in at the Prairie Avenue intersection. Flaggers will be on hand and detours will be in place during this time.

The landscaping phase of the Gary Avenue Improvement Project is anticipated to be done in spring 2026.
