St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines Seeks Local Cat Foster Heroes

WHEATON, IL — Love cats but can’t commit to adoption? St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines has the purr-fect solution. The Wheaton-based nonprofit cat rescue is calling on compassionate individuals and families to open their hearts and homes as foster caregivers this summer.
Fostering is a short-term commitment with life-saving impact. Whether you care for a kitten for two weeks or a senior cat for two months, fostering gives at-risk cats a safe, loving place to heal and grow while they await adoption.
Why Fostering Matters
St. Sophia’s operates largely through a network of foster homes, allowing the rescue to save hundreds of cats each year—many pulled from overcrowded shelters, unsafe environments, or urgent medical situations. Fostering not only frees up space for additional rescues, but also helps cats adjust better to home life, making them more adoptable.

“We started with just five foster homes in 2011,” says the rescue’s director. “Now we place nearly 1,000 cats a year—but we always need more fosters, especially for adult cats, medical needs, and during peak kitten season.”
