WHEATON, IL — When students start the 2025-26 school year at Whittier Elementary School, they will be able to spend recess on a brand new playground.

Community Unit School District 200 unveiled the playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 10. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler did the honors of cutting the ribbon with oversized scissors as students, parents and community members watched.

Then, children were eager to be the first to try out the new playground equipment. Bright blue and red, the playground features a double slide, climbing amenities, a tube slide and more. There's also a board depicting the alphabet in American Sign Language.
