Tuesday afternoon, Patch spoke with the mother of the student who was apparently unconscious after the fight. She said she was set to speak with Superintendent Jeff Schuler Wednesday morning. Schuler sent a message to parents Wednesday night addressing two videos "that have recently gone viral regarding a physical altercation between students at Wheaton Warrenville South High School (WWS) last week. "
Schuler wrote, "We do not condone the actions reflected in this fight as it does not represent the expectations we have for students in District 200 schools."
According to Schuler, the district has received questions about its disciplinary actions. He wrote, "[T]here are rumors circulating about discipline related to this incident that are false. I want you to know that any time there is a safety concern or student misconduct, we, along with local law enforcement, thoroughly investigate the incident and take necessary disciplinary action to the full extent outlined in our student handbook."
Schuler added that student privacy protection precludes the district from sharing additional information.
On Wednesday night, Wheaton police announced that two students face felony charges related to the fight.
