The people of DuPage County have spoken, and they want mosquito abatement efforts consolidated.
The townships overwhelming supported the referendum to streamline mosquito abatement.
The proposal put to voters read: “In order to provide greater health benefits and mosquito nuisance control, and to save taxpayers money from the 40 units of governments in DuPage County that have responsibilities in providing mosquito abatement services, shall those government authorities be consolidated into the nine DuPage County Townships to administer Mosquito Abatement Programs?”

Dozens of cases of the mosquito-born Zika virus have been reported in Illinois, according to NBC Chicago. The Illinois Department of Public Health said the first case of West Nile virus reported in 2016 was in early June.
