Wheaton Considers Changing Its Fee Schedule For Water Rates
The city council will have a first reading of an ordinance that would change when water fee increases take effect.
WHEATON, IL — The Wheaton City Council will have a first reading Monday for an ordinance that would change when increases to its water fees take effect.
As of early September 2024, the water fee schedule was updated to comprise a schedule increase from the city on Jan. 1 and an annual increase on June 1 from DuPage Water Commission (DWC). According to city documents, staff is proposing a shift that would change the city's rate increase to June 1 to coincide with DWC in order to "avoid two annual increases that may confuse water customers."
City water rates set to increase Jan. 1, 2026, and Jan. 1, 2027, would increase instead in June of their respective years. The proposal will be adopted Dec. 15 if approved by city council members.
