Wheaton Residents, Business, School Honored With Sustainability Awards
One student, four adults, a school and a business were recently recognized with the inaugural Wheaton Sustainability Awards.

WHEATON, IL — A student, four adults, a school and a local business were recently recognized in the inaugural Wheaton Sustainability Awards.
The winners were chosen by Wheaton's Environmental Improvement Commission from a pool of nominees submitted by community members.
The recipients are as follows.

Yusuf Hussain
Yusuf Hussain, who attends Glenbard West High School, "has a passion for conservation and sustainability, demonstrated through hard work transforming several areas in Wheaton," the City of Wheaton's website said.

Hussain launched an Eagle Scout project in which he planted native trees and used rain barrels to nourish plants.
Rita Nathanson and Bill Nieman
Rita Nathanson and Bill Nieman were recognized for their eco-friendly lifestyles, which include riding bikes, driving electric vehicles and using rain barrels. Additionally, Nieman and Nathanson are on the city's Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission, per the city's website.
Cathy and Jim Truesdale
Cathy and Jim Truesdale were honored for their "next-level" recycling practices, which include reusing laundry water and installing solar panels. Jim also played a key role in founding Northern Illinois Food Bank, according to the city's news release.
Andrew's Garden
Andrew's Garden was recognized for practicing and educating others about sustainable practices in their floristry. Additionally, they use flowers that are grown locally and avoid dyes and foam, opting instead for compostable packaging.
Prairie School of DuPage
Prairie School of DuPage got nods for its gardening and composting practices. The school was also recognized for its eco-friendly energy initiatives.
