Wheaton's 2017 Fourth of July Parade, Fireworks and Road Closures

Planning your Fourth of July festivities? Local officials are reminding residents of Wheaton's events — and their associated road closures.

WHEATON, IL – Fourth of July festivities will not hard to come by in Wheaton, and local officials are reminding residents to plan ahead so they can relish the holiday fun with family.

The Wheaton Park District will be hosting the Independence Day Fireworks and Parade on July 3 and July 4, respectively. Find a rundown of the details below, including any related road closures or anticipated traffic delays.

Fireworks Activities

Wheaton's 2017 Fireworks Display is set for Monday, July 3. The show will officially start at 9:05 p.m. on the DuPage County Fairgrounds, but spectator viewing and activities kick off at 4 p.m. in Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road.

During this time, drivers should expect traffic delays on:

  • North County Farm Road between West Roosevelt Road and Geneva Road;
  • Manchester Road between East Street (Winfield) and North Gables Boulevard; and
  • Neighborhood side streets surrounding the DuPage County Fairgrounds.

Wheaton Police Department officials ask that drivers follow posted signs and are particularly mindful of pedestrians en route to events.

Parade

The city's 2017 July 4th Parade will be held on Tuesday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The following major streets will be closed:

  • North Main Street between Geneva Road and West Wesley Street;
  • West Wesley Street between North Main Street and Wheaton Avenue;
  • Wheaton Avenue between West Wesley and Front Street; and
  • Front Street between West Street and North Cross.

Several side streets near North Main — particularly, East Parkway Drive and East Hawthorne Boulevard —will be temporarily closed during staging for parade entrants.

Officials said they will ensure that all affected streets are adequately staffed with uniformed police officers throughout the holiday. But, drivers should expect temporary delays despite on-scene officers directing traffic and may want to reroute their trips accordingly.
