2 New Shops Bring 'Modern Elegance' To Wilmette's Plaza Del Lago

Plaza del Lago's ever-growing collection of shops has gotten bigger, furthering the shopping destination's transformation.

WILMETTE, IL — Two new shops that opened last week at Plaza del Lago are helping embody modern elegance at the transformed shopping center.

Fashion company Veronica Beard and home and wardrobe brand Hill House Home opened their doors at the historic shopping center on Oct. 2. Their arrival supports Plaza del Lago's goal of being the North Shore's destination for style, culture and community.

"Veronica Beard brings sharp tailoring and effortless polish, while Hill House Home adds a softer, romantic sensibility. Together, they capture the balance of heritage and modernity that defines the plaza’s next chapter," a Plaza del Lago spokesperson told Patch.

Plaza del Lago, built in the 1920s, is one of the oldest open-air shopping centers in the U.S. The property is known for charming Spanish-style architecture and seamless integration into the surrounding neighborhood.

Under, the ownership of WS Development, the shopping center is undergoing a revival to preserve its historic character while introducing premier retailers and modern amenities.

Enhancements include building restorations, infrastructure upgrades, lush landscaping, inviting gathering spaces, wide strolling paths and improved signage, seating and lighting.

"From design and infrastructure upgrades to strategic brand selection, every decision has been intentional," a spokesperson said. "Ultimately, the goal is to create a place where retail, dining, and neighborhood life connect seamlessly—reflecting both the past and future of Wilmette’s North Shore."

Since this summer, over a dozen stores have opened at Plaza del Lago and there are more to come. Coming soon, concepts like The Henry and a locally owned yoga studio will join the growing collection of shops.

"The result is a place that feels as much a neighborhood gathering spot as a shopping destination—authentic to the North Shore in both spirit and style," a spokesperson said.
