WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette and Kenilworth police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

ARMED ROBBERY
A 44-year-old jogger was confronted by two male robbers around 9 a.m. on May 4 on a sidewalk near Beechwood and Hunter avenue. Two 18-year-old men were identified as the robbers, and one was charged in connection with the incident. Read more...

HARASSMENT
Between May 6 and May 7, An Old Glenview Road resident reported received harassing calls and texts from someone they had done business with on May 6 and May 7.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES

  • Someone forced their way in to the Mobil Gas Station, 1837 Wilmette Ave., through the front glass door and removed cash, cigarettes, and snacks during the overnight hours between May 20 and May 21.
  • Someone entered an office in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue and stole a tablet and other small electronics during the overnight hours between May 20 and May 21.
  • Officers responded to an alarm and observed the front door ajar and glass shattered at the BP Gas Station, 901 Green Bay Road at 3 a.m. on May 30. Two burglars entered the store and stole several cartons of cigarettes.

FRAUDS

  • A resident of the 700 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported unauthorized charges on their credit card account on April 23.
  • Between Feb. 29 and May 1, someone used a fraudulent credit card to purchase school spirit wear from a resident of the 1100 block of Laramie Avenue.
  • A resident of the 2700 block of Blackhawk Road reported two unauthorized charges on their department store credit card account on May 2.
  • On May 6, a resident of the 200 block of Hibbard Rd. learned that they had inadvertently sent over $23,000 to various individuals through multiple online platforms.
  • A resident of the 2600 block of Wilmette Avenue became aware of an unauthorized bank transaction on their account on the afternoon of May 7.
  • On May 17, a resident of the 200 block of Hibbard Road discovered two fraudulent payments from their bank account totaling $2,100.
  • On May 13, a resident of the 700 block of Hibbard Road was notified that their credit card was used to purchase $3,308 in tickets via the internet.

SCAMS

  • On May 6, a Locust Road resident reported they were scammed out of several hundred dollars after getting a text message from a subject claiming to be their boss, asking them to purchase four $100 gift cards. The resident purchased the cards and gave the numbers to the scammer.
  • A Thornwood Avenue resident reportedly they made a deposit for an outdoor grill offered for sale via an online marketplace between May 4 and May 14 but later learned that the seller had taken multiple deposits from multiple people for the same item.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • During the overnight hours between April 29 and April 30, someone damaged a window on a 2016 Honda Odyssey parked in the 900 block of Forest Avenue.
  • Between May 1 and May 2, someone scratched the side of a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue.
  • On May 2, someone damaged two side windows on a vehicle parked in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue.
  • Someone damaged the driver’s window of a white 2004 Honda Accord parked in the 200 block of Wood Court during the overnight hours between May 7 and May 8.
  • Someone damaged the driver’s window of a Dodge truck parked in the 500 block of 7th Street during the overnight hours between May 7 and May 8.
  • A large scratch was reported on the side of a vehicle in the 500 block of 5th Street on May 25.
  • Someone spray-painted graffiti onto six Chicago Transit Authority service cars in the CTA property at 349 Linden Ave. during the overnight hours between May 26 and May 27.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • During the overnight hours between May 2 and May 3, someone got into an unlocked Toyota SUV parked in the 500 block of 8th Street. The car was rifled through and a phone cord was reported stolen.
  • Someone stole a tablet and wallet from an unlocked car parked in the 800 block of Ridge Road between 3 and 4:45 p.m. on May 6.
  • On May 9, someone entered an unlocked Nissan Murano parked in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue and stole a credit card on May 9. The stolen card was later used without authorization.
  • Someone entered an unlocked Jeep SUV in the 2100 block of Elmwood Avenue and stole a backpack containing clothing and electronics between May 7 and May 11.
  • Someone entered an unlocked Hyundai parked in the 2600 block of Kenilworth Avenue and stole a garage remote at 4:09 a.m. on May 18.
  • Someone stole several credit cards from an unlocked Honda minivan parked at Gillson Park in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue around 8 p.m. on May 19. The credit cards were subsequently used for transactions totaling more than $6,000.
  • Someone forced entry to an HVAC work van in the 700 block of Linden Avenue and stole tools valued at $1,500 on May 21.
  • Someone broke a window on an electrician’s work van in the 500 block of 7th Street on May 21. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone entered an unlocked construction vehicle in the 1500 block of Sheridan Road and stole equipment valued at $3,500 on May 21.
  • Someone broke a window on a plumber’s work van in the 700 block of Washington Avenue and stole equipment valued at $2,700 on May 23.
  • Someone entered an unlocked elevator company vehicle in the 1400 block of Sheridan Road and stole power equipment valued at $2,700 on May 23.
  • Someone broke a window on a work van in the 1500 block of Walnut and stole charging cords valued at $30 on May 23.
  • Someone entered a bus through the rooftop emergency exit and stole a fire extinguisher from the Wilmette Rec Center, 3000 Glenview Road, during the overnight hours between May 27 and May 28.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Someone carrying a handbag entered the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., proceeded to the liquor section, put five bottles of liquor in the bag and was approached by an employee. The shoplifter reportedly dropped the bag and left the store around 6:30 p.m. on May 3.
  • On May 5 at 2:20 p.m., a shoplifter put a bottle of wine into a reusable bag at the Fresh Market in the 3232 Lake Ave. When an employee asked about the contents of the bag, the thief left the store with the bag and wine.
  • Someone stole cosmetics valued at $2,342.22 from the CVS at 1515 Sheridan Road around 8:30 p.m. on May 6.
  • Someone entered an unlocked Land Rover parked in the 300 block of 4th Street and stole the driver’s license and credit card during the overnight hours between May 7 and May 8.
  • Two people entered the Jewel-Osco store at 411 Green Bay Road and stole various boxes of liquor with a total value of $5,710.92 on May 12.
  • Someone stole a designer handbag valued at $95 from an unspecified business in the 1100 block of Central Avenue on May 19.

THEFTS

  • A resident of the 1100 block of Chestnut Avenue reported on May 8 that someone had knocked over a cement bench near their front door and stole a contractor’s sign.
  • Someone stole a pair of sandals left unattended at Gillson Beach in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue on May 10.
  • Someone stole a water hydrant meter rig valued at $3,500 from the 600 block of Lawler Avenue on May 29.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Elmwood Avenue resident reported on May 6 that their personal identifying information was used online for a credit inquiry to a car dealership.
  • A Seneca Road resident reported on May 10 that someone opened a bank account and withdrew over $12,000 using their personal identifying information.
  • A 16th Street resident reported that someone used their credit card account to make two unauthorized purchases totaling over $4,900 on May 15.
  • Someone in Michigan applied for a vehicle loan using the personal identifying information of a Kenilworth Avenue resident on May 16.
  • A Hibbard Road resident was notified on May 17 that someone had tried to apply for unemployment benefits with their personal identifying information.
  • A resident of the 300 block of 17th Street received a phone call from a credit provider advising that someone was using their personal identifying information in an attempt to purchase a car in Iowa on May 29.

ARRESTS

A 46-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 5 p.m. on May 4 and charged with criminal trespassing and criminal damage after police were called to a vacant building in the 400 block of Ridge Road for a report of suspicious person. Officers found a man at the rear of the building who had a cut on his head and admitted to kicking out a window next to the front door and entering the building through the broken window.

A 21-year-old Chicago man employed by an unspecified business in the 1100 block of Greenleaf Avenue was arrested on May 6 and charged with theft after police were told that he had stolen money from the register.

A 51-year-old Chicago man was arrested on May 11 and charged with theft after an officer spotted him with a bicycle that had just been stolen from Homer's Ice Cream, 1237 Green Bay Road. He was taken into custody behind a restaurant in the 1700 block of Orchard Lane.

An 18-year-old Elmwood Park man and an 18-year-old Aurora woman were arrested shortly before midnight on May 17 and charged with misdemeanor retail theft after police were called to the Jewel-Osco, 411 Green Bay Road, for a report of a shoplifting in progress. The pair of teens reportedly stole more than $361 worth of merchandise.

Derrick Lucas, 37, of the 8100 block of South Burnham Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on a warrant on May 19 by Evanston police and charged with unlawful use of a credit card after police determined he used a credit card stolen from an unlocked car in the 2200 block of Greenwood Avenue on Feb. 28. The card was later used at a store in Chicago and a gas station in Evanston.

Keyon White, 33, of the 8400 block of South Gilbert Court, Chicago, was arrested on May 24 and charged with burglary after police dispatched to a burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Forest Avenue around 9:30 a.m. White initially fled police before he was stopped in the 800 block of Oakwood Avenue.

Rochelle Garmon, 22, of the 500 block of South Lotus Avenue, Chicago, and Arionna Robinson, 20, of the 2600 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, Chicago, were arrested on May 24 and charged with felony theft after police were called to the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., for a report of a shoplifting in progress. The pair reportedly stole more than $2,000 worth of cosmetics.

James Dalu, 36, of the 4300 block of West Ford City Drive, Chicago, was arrested on an active DuPage County arrest warrant and charged with retail theft and obstructing identification after police found him a the Kenilworth train station and identified him as the person who stole six bottles of alcohol from the CVS, 1515 Sheridan Road. He also initially gave police a false name.

Jaden Elias-Thompson, 22, of the 4900 block of South Maplewood Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with an incident shortly before midnight on May 29. Elias-Thompson was one of four people taken into custody after officers heard gunshots in the 3600 block of Lake Avenue. The other three people were released without charges. Read more...

Jawaun Alexander, 28, of the 6500 block South Wentworth Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on May 28 and charged with felony theft in connection with the burglary of copper and precious metals from a construction site at Edens Plaza on Feb. 6. He also faces charges from authorities in Skokie and Chicago in connection with similar incidents. Another person taken into custody by Wilmette detectives was turned over to Chicago police to face similar charges.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Kent Road resident reported that someone had used their identity to open up a fraudulent Citibank account a some point between March 17 and April 15. There was no monetary loss at the time of the report.
