NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CAR BURGLARIES
Someone stole an iPhone from an unlocked Ford in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue on or before June 3.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
Someone tried to try open two doors that lead into an office in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue on or before June 3.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an unlocked Nissan from the 600 block of Maple Avenue on June 3 after the key fob had been left inside. An Apple Air Tag tracking device belonging to the owner was left in the, which was found in the 3300 block of Lyons Street that same afternoon.

THEFT
A resident in the 300 block of Skokie Court reported on June 5 that someone had stolen a tax return from their mailbox, although they were not sure if the $2,1000 check had been cashed.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole a cream-colored Townie 70 Step Electra Bicycle valued at $500 after it was left unlocked at the bike rack at the sailing beach at Gillson Park, 100 Lake St., on or before June 4.

LIFE PRESERVER THEFT
Someone stole two lifesaving rings worth $200 from Overlook Drive at Gillson Park on or before June 5.

ATTEMPTED SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the CVS, 1515 Sheridan Road, reported on June 6 that they recognized a known shoplifter filling up a bag he brought into the store with alcohol. A manager recognized the man, who was described as 5 feet, 10 inches, 160 pounds and black and wearing a black sweatshirt, mask and traffic vest.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT
Someone stole a catalytic converter from a Acura parked in the 300 block of Old Glenview Road on June 6.

CAR BURGLARY
Around 12:15 a.m. on June 6, a security camera captured video of a male burglar in his late teens or 20s with forearm tattoos entering an unlocked Ford parked in a driveway in the 300 block of 3rd Street. The burglar wore a backwards baseball hat and a messenger-type bag.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Joshua Davis, 37, who is homeless, was charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of criminal damage to property and one count of residential burglary after he confronted an elderly Wilmette couple who had been allowing him to store his property in their basement. After showed up on June 5 and began demanding money from the resident, he threatened the residents, took their cell phones and smashed them before he was taken into custody nearby by police.

Santiago Andrade, 25, of the 700 block of Kane Street in Hammond, Indiana, was arrested on June 5 and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after an officer pulled over a car and found 240 oxycodone tablets in bottles with different people's names on them.

Peter Nelson, 27, of the 1100 block of Central Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested on June 7 on an active arrest warrant issued after he failed to appear in Cook County court. An officer spotted him walking around the intersection of Green Bay Road and Central Avenue and knew that he had an arrest warrant.

Patrick E. Fisher, 44, of the 700 block of Plum Street, DeKalb, was arrested on June 9 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled over a car he was driving around Lake Avenue and Hibbard Road. Fisher refused to provide a breath sample, and officers also cited him for expired registration.

CAR BURGLARIES/CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • Someone burglarized a possibly unlocked Acura in a driveway in the 200 block of Maple Hill Road, rummaging through its interior and breaking off its rear-view mirror on or before June 11.
  • Three unlocked cars parked in the 900 block of Green Bay Road were burglarized during the night of June 10 or morning of June 11, though their owner was not sure what was stolen.
  • On or before June 11, someone burglarized an unlocked Acura, emptied out its glovebox and cut the driver's side seat while it was parked in the 800 block of Greenwood Road. The car was also left with two flat tires on its passenger side.
  • A resident in the 800 block of Vernon Avenue reported on June 11 that someone had burglarized their unlocked car, cut its driver's seat and broke off its rearview mirror.

SWIFT SCAM
A Greenwood Avenue resident reported on June 13 that they had been scammed into sending $500 via Venmo to someone they had encountered on Craigslist who was offering tickets to a Taylor Swift concert for sale.

STOLEN AIRLINE MILES
A Jackson Avenue resident reported on June 13 that someone had gained unauthorized access to their American Airlines frequent flyer account and used 75,000 travel points.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

CHECK FRAUD
A Provident Avenue resident reported on June 6 that someone had intercepted checks in the mail, altered them and cashed them sometime between April 15 and April 27, causing an unspecified loss greater than $5,000.

AIRLINE MILES THEFT
A Hill Road resident reported on June 9 that someone had used their American Airlines miles to make unauthorized transactions on June 4 for a loss of about $2,800.

JEWELRY THEFT
Someone stole nearly $4,300 worth of jewelry form a home in the 1500 block of Hickory Lane between Dec. 30, 2022, and June 9, police were told on June 11.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A manager at Fields BMW, 700 W. Frontage Road, reported on June 6 that an angry customer called and made "disturbing comments" regarding the service they received. While none of the comments were threatening, staff asked police to tell the customer he was banned from the store.

DECK FIRE
Shortly before 7 a.m. June 10, police and fire personnel were dispatched to a house fire in the 300 block of Meadowbrook Drive, where an outdoor space heater on a backyard deck burst into flames, which spread to the attached house. Police used fire extinguishers to try to slow the spread of the blaze before the Northfield Fire Department arrived and extinguished it.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone smashed a window of a locked car parked at the lot of Fox Meadow Park, 440 Fox Meadow Drive, and stole a purse from inside prior to 1 p.m. June 11.

CHECK FRAUD

  • A Bristol Road resident reported on June 5 that someone had intercepted a check in the mail, altered it and cashed it without authorization.
  • A Winnetka Road resident reported on June 6 that someone had intercepted a mailed check and cashed it without authorization after altering it.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Winnetka road resident reported on June 5 that someone had used their identity to open an unauthorized cell phone service account.
  • A Meadowbrook Drive resident reported on June 9 that someone had made several unauthorized charges on their credit and Paypal accounts.

ARRESTS

Kara A. Simmons, 33, of the 8600 block of Laflin Street, Chicago, was arrested around 10 p.m. on June 8 and charged with retail theft after she allegedly stole about $642 worth of merchandise from the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road. She returned to the store after she was confronted by store management.
