How To Schedule Hazardous And Electronic Waste Collection In Wilmette

Anyone looking to get rid of old electronics or hazardous household waste can schedule a free collection in the coming weeks.

WILMETTE, IL — Residents in Wilmette will be able to get rid of old electronics, like cell phones or VCRs, and hazardous household waste during upcoming special refuse collections.

During the week of Aug. 18, residents can schedule an e-waste pickup with recycling company LRS. Residents should place their electronics in a separate, identifiable container on the curbside with their normal collection.

For TVs or computer monitors that weight over 100 lbs or are larger than 60 inches, residents should contact LRS because the items may require special equipment and labor to collect it. Many items cannot be accepted during e-waste collection including:

  • capacitors
  • dehumidifiers
  • household batteries (AA, AAA, D, C, Lithium)

  • VHS cassette tapes
  • medical equipment

Requests must be submitted online at lrsrecycles.com/wilmette or by calling 844-633-3577 before Aug. 8.

Hazardous household waste collection will take place throughout September, according to officials. HHW includes products that are toxic, corrosive or otherwise hazardous such as paints, cleaners, pesticides, bulbs and batteries.

To request collection for hazardous waste, residents can visit lrsrecycles.com/wilmette, call 844-633-3577 or email Service@LRSrecycles.com starting Aug. 1. After your request is received, LRS will mail you a kit that includes clear, thick, plastic bags with a reminder of accepted items and confirmation of your collection date.
