"The need for those who can't find a way to put enough food on their table, especially healthy protein, is continuing to grow across Chicagoland and the nation. It is critically important that we expand the number of people we reach with our ‘Poultry to Pantries’ program," said Bob Tucker, HRN Board Member.

‘Poultry to Pantries Day’ is another important reminder that food insecurity has no boundaries. It is the day (held twice a year) when 120,000 pounds of frozen 10 lb. packages of chicken are distributed to almost one hundred food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout Chicagoland to help lessen hunger in food insecure households.

“Each ½ pound of bone-in chicken equals one serving. The need is so great most of the chicken is served that evening or within a few days,” said Kerry Smith, Director of Development at HRN. Hunger Resource Network’s next ‘Poultry to Pantries Day’ will be Saturday, November 16, 2024 at HRN’s headquarters in Northbrook.
