NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

EGGING
A group of juveniles showed up at a home in the 1200 block of Richmond Lane on threw fireworks in the yard and eggs at the house, police were told on June 14.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole $60 and a sunglasses case from an unlocked Acura while it was parked in the 100 block of Lockerbie Lane on or before June 14.
  • A resident of the 200 block of Lockerbie Lane reported on June 14 that someone had gotten into two unlocked cars and rummaged through their interiors without stealing anything.
  • Someone rummaged through two unlocked cars in the 200 block of Lockerbie Lane on or before June 14. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • A resident in the 3300 block of Old Glenview Road reported on June 14 that someone had gotten into their unlocked Infiniti and stole $50 and a pair of Versace sunglasses valued at $100.

THEFTS

  • A resident in the 400 block of Poplar Drive reported on June 5 that someone stole their iPad on June 1 or June 2.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked gray Trek mountain bike valued at $800 after it was left at the rec center, 3000 Glenview Road, on or before June 13.
  • A black Giant Cadex road bicycle valued at $425 was reported stolen on June 13 after it was left, possibly unlocked, near the rear gate of a home in the 400 block of 3rd Street.
  • Someone stole a package from Verizon containing two iPhone 14s valued at $1,600 from the front porch of a home in the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue around 3 p.m. on June 13. Images of the thief were captured by a doorbell camera. He was described as 6 feet tall, with a full beard, muscular build and dark complexion. He was wearing a dark baseball hat, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark shoes.

  • A Robsart Road resident reported on June 16 that someone had opened an AT&T account using their identity.
  • A Robsart Road resident reported on June 19 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently obtain two credit card accounts with Bank of America.

GLENCOE

HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT
A Lakewood Drive resident returned home on June 19 to find three masked men on the west side of their house. The burglary crew fled in a black Chevy Tahoe, and, after officers checked the house, the resident reported that nothing was stolen from inside.

ARRESTS

Osama Hassan, 44, of the 1200 block of Country Club Road, Lake Zurich, was arrested on June 18 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and excessive speeding following a traffic stop near the intersection of Green Bay Road and South Avenue. He was also issued a citation for illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

Arkadiusz Sznapka, 58, of the 5400 block of East River Road, Chicago, was arrested on June 18 and charged with various offenses following an encounter with Glencoe public safety officers. Sznapka first managed to avoid being pulled over in a stolen Scion on Sheridan Road but was eventually taken into custody on Deer Park Road in Highland Park.

WINNETKA

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Winnetka Avenue resident reported on June 14 that someone had used their identity the day before to make an unauthorized transaction from their Partnership Financial Credit Union account for a loss of about $72.
  • A Lamson Drive resident reported on June 15 that someone had used their identity to open up a Verizon account on June 13.
  • A Warwick Road resident reported on June 17 that someone had intercepted and altered checks in the mail between April 16 and April 23. The checks were cashed for an unspecified loss greater than $5,000.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

A Middlefork Road resident reported on June 13 that someone had used their identity to make an unauthorized $4,000 withdrawal from their bank account.

STOLEN CAR

A Glencoe resident reported someone stole their car from the parking lot of an office building in the 500 block of Frontage Road between 8:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 13.

PACKAGE THEFT
A resident in the 400 block of Wagner Road reported on June 16 that someone had stolen a package from their front doorstep sometime during the prior week.

SHOPLIFTING ATTEMPT
Staff of the Mariano's, 1822 Willow Road, reported around 8:15 p.m. on June 17 that an unidentified man had tried to steal numerous bottles of alcohol by hiding them in his backpack, but after being confronted by employees, he unloaded the liquor and left the store.

ARRESTS

Robert S. Clingan, 53, of the 500 block of Valley Way, Northfield, was arrested around 9 p.m. on June 14 and charged with two counts of battery and one count of resisting arrest following an incident at a Market and Music event at Clarkson Park, 1950 Willow Road. A girl told police that Clingan had given an unwelcome kiss to a pin that she was wearing. After the girl identified him, officers tried to talk to him about it. When police asked for his identification to write up a report, he became angry and walked away from an officer, who told him he was not free to leave. As the officer tried to stop him from leaving, he kicked the officer in the shin before he was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Tyler J. Schmidt, 29, of the 200 block of South Happ Road, Northfield, was arrested around 9 a.m. on June 16 on an arrest warrant for a charge of domestic battery stemming from an incident that occurred April 30, 2023, in his block of residence. Schmidt was a passenger in a car driven by a 55-year-old Chicago woman who had a suspended license and suspended plates when she was pulled over in the 2300 block of Willow Road.
