Lakeshore Flood Advisory For Cook, Lake Counties Expires
A buoy offshore of Wilmette was measuring wave heights greater than 10 feet as of Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
WILMETTE, IL — A Lakeshore Flood Advisory remained in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Cook and Lake Counties.
The National Weather Service said the area could expect large and battering waves of 12 to 16 feet. A buoy offshore of Wilmette had already measured wave heights greater than 10 feet as of Monday morning, officials said.
Waves of this magnitude could result in shoreline erosion, lakeshore flooding and dangerous conditions near the lakefront, according to the weather service.

"Waves will continue to batter the lakeshore spraying water on trails and parks. Stay dry when waves are high!" the National Weather Service tweeted at the time.
Flooding is likely to impact low-lying roads and property along the lakeshore as well as parts of the Chicago bike path, weather experts had warned.
