NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments and court records as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state, and county prosecutors often choose to drop or reduce them. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless later proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A resident in the 500 block of Hunter Road reported on March 28 that someone had stolen about $700 from a container in their home.

BURGLARY
Someone broke into an unspecified business in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue on or before April 15. Police were told the intruder opened the cash register but did not steal anything.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole an Acura sedan from the 900 block of Cherokee Road on or before April 9 after it was left unlocked with a key inside. The car was found abandoned in the 3500 block of West Eastwood Avenue on Chicago's Northwest Side on April 12.
  • A car that was stolen last month from an auto repair shop in the 800 block of Green Bay Road was found abandoned on April 12 in the 7500 block of North Albany Avenue.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Staff at the Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road, reported around 6 p.m. on April 13 that someone had just stolen about $200 worth of food and beverages. The shoplifter was described as a white man in his 30s with a beard and multiple tattoos on his arms and legs, wearing a green and black baseball cap and a white and black pinstriped White Sox jersey.
  • Around 1:15 p.m. on April 18, staff at the Walgreens, 3232 Lake Ave., reported that someone had stolen two bottles of tequila. The shoplifter was described as a black man with dreadlocks and an "X" tattoo on his right cheek, wearing a baseball hat and a long black jacket with white pinstripes.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLES

  • Someone damaged the window of a Jaguar parked in the 400 block of Bunker Lane at some point during the night of March 26 or early morning hours of March 27.
  • Someone smashed the rear window of a car parked in the 1400 block of Wilmette Avenue on or before April 16.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole about $5 in change from a Lexus SUV left unlocked in the 1200 block of Cleveland Street on the night of April 8 or morning of April 9.
  • Someone stole a phone charger from a Honda SUV left unlocked in the 1900 block of Elmwood Avenue on the night of April 8 or morning of April 9.
  • At some point on the night of April 8 or morning of April 9, someone got into an unlocked Volkswagen sedan in the 1900 block of Elmwood Avenue, rummaged through its center console and peeled the steering column in what appeared to have been an attempt to steal it. Nothing was missing from inside.
  • Someone stole a small amount of change from a Subaru left unlocked in the 2100 block of Old Glenview Road, police were told on April 10.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Kelly Musgjerd, 33, formerly of Wilmette, was arrested on March 28 and charged with criminal trespassing to property after a resident in the 1000 block of Locust Road reported that she was in a home from which she had previously been given a no trespassing warning.

Roman Urbana, 42, of the 2100 block of North Monitor Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on April 1 after an officer tried to pull him over while speeding north on Ridge Road. Urbana blew through a red light at the intersection of Ridge and Lake Avenue, lost control of the Jeep he was driving and crashed into a streetlight. He was charged with aggravated reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license and driving with a suspended license. Officers also cited him for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and no insurance.

Sha’Ve Seals, 26, of the 3500 block of West Berwyn Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on April 1 and charged with assault, battery, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest after police were called to Mather Place, 2801 Old Glenview Road, for a report that she was assaulting another woman. Police reported she was highly intoxicated and belligerent as officers attempted to take her into custody.

Camden Wall, 18, of the 1400 block of Forest Street, Evanston, was arrested on April 2 and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle in connection with an investigation into a stolen 2016 Kia.

Joseph A. Ryan Jr., 22, of the 2900 block of Central Street, Evanston, was arrested around 4:45 p.m. on April 6 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and possession of cannabis following a traffic stop near the intersection of Wilmette and Central avenues. Officers also issued him citations for improper lane usage and no valid registration.

Donrece T. Chamberline, 18, of the 5400 block of Main Street, Skokie, was arrested around 7:17 p.m. on April 10 and charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer after police were called to the former Corner Bakery at 3232 Lake Ave. for a report of a minor drinking alcohol there. Officers reported Chamberline was intoxicated and refused to comply, spitting in the faces of several officers as he resisted arrest.

James W. Parker, 50, was arrested around 5:30 a.m. on April 13 at the CTA Purple Line station at 349 Linden Ave. on a bond forfeiture warrant issued by Cook County authorities. Police were told he shoved a female passenger as he was getting on the train, and a potential charge of battery remained pending at the time of the report.

Marc J. Schuele, 34, of the 600 block of North Wren Avenue, Palatine, was arrested on April 15 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia after police who found him in the parking lot of Edens Plaza, 3232 Lake Avenue, and offered him a ride to the train station discovered he possessed narcotics and paraphernalia.

John Berdecia, 40, of the 1800 block of North LeClaire Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on April 16 and charged with criminal trespassing to vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia after police found a Hyundai that had been reported stolen in a parking lot in the 400 block of Green Bay Road. The car's passenger detained but the driver fled before being taken into custody. Police discovered Berdecia also had an active arrest warrant for armed robbery issued on behalf of the Chicago Police Department.


KENILWORTH

INCIDENTS

GIFT CARD SCAM
A Maclean Avenue resident reported on March 29 that they had gotten a purported "fraud alert" on their computer describing the unauthorized use of their checking account and instructing them to call a telephone number. When they did, someone instructed them to buy Bitcoin or gift cards. The resident purchased 18 gift cards for $9,000 and provided the access codes to the scammer.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Kenilworth Avenue resident reported on March 27 that someone had used their identity to fraudulently apply for five unauthorized loans from three different vendors on Jan. 15 and Jan. 16. The resident was able to contact the lenders before any of the money was disbursed.
  • An Exmoor Road resident reported that someone used their identity to fraudulently apply for multiple lines of credit and loans between September 2022 and April 2023. There was no reported loss.

CHECK FRAUD
On March 31, a Linden Avenue resident reported that someone had altered checks in the mail and cashed them without authorization for an unspecified loss.

PASSPORT SCAM
An Astor Place resident reported on April 7 that they had been scammed into paying a processing fee by a fraudulent website that they believed would help renew their family's passports.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole a Jeep SUV after it was left unlocked with its keys inside while parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Vernon Avenue on April 3. Chicago police later found the vehicle.
  • Staff at Carmax, 2000 Frontage Road, reported that someone had stolen a 2013 Hyundai Elantra from the front parking area of the business.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • Someone used the identity of a Lincoln Avenue resident in an unsuccessful credit application with Macy's on March 30.
  • On April 5, someone used the identity of a Park Avenue resident in an unsuccessful attempt to open a credit card with American Express and Marriott Bonvoy.
  • A Green Bay Road resident reported someone had used their identity to get a COVID-19 disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The resident got a letter on April 7 notifying them that the first loan payment had been due in February.
  • On April 11, a Hazel Avenue resident reported that someone used their identity in an unsuccessful attempt to finance the purchase of a car in San Jose, California.
  • An Oak Ridge Drive resident reported that they received a letter on April 17 from the U.S. Small Business Administration notifying them that the first payment was due next month on a loan for which they had never applied.
  • A Sunset Lane resident reported receiving a letter from the U.S. Small Business Administration on April 18 , which notified them that they a loan for which they had never applied was past due on payment.

ARRESTS

Temera Webb, 28, of the 3400 block of Highland Boulevard, Milwaukee, was arrested at an unspecified location on a bond forfeiture warrant stemming from a retail theft charge.

Neyla Andrushko, 39, of the 1100 block of Hunt Club Drive, Mount Prospect, was arrested on April 8 and charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop near Green Bay Road and Scott Avenue. She was also issued citations for disobeying a stop sign, improper lane usage and failure to signal when required.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

THEFT
Someone stole a container of hockey equipment worth $600 from the Winnetka Ice Arena, 490 Hibbard Road, at some point between March 22 and April 6.

VANDALISM
Someone spray painted a traffic sign in the 600 block of Green Bay Road prior to 3:30 p.m. on April 12, causing $50 in damage.

WRONG ADDRESS
A resident in the 800 block of Ash Street reported on April 15 that an item they bought online valued at about $350 had been delivered to a different address than the one the resident wanted.

CHECK FRAUD

  • A Merrill Street resident reported on March 27 that someone had intercepted a check in the mail between Nov. 5, 2022, and Feb. 22, 2023, altered it and cashed it for a loss of $969.
  • Someone intercepted a check mailed from a Sunview Lane resident between March 3 and March 14 before altering it and cashing it for an unspecified loss exceeding $5,000, police were told on March 28.
  • A Cherry Street resident reported that someone intercepted a check in the mail between Feb. 14 and Feb. 17, altered and cashed it without authorization for a loss of nearly $4,500.
  • Someone intercepted a check mailed by a Provident Avenue resident between April 2 and April 6 and cashed it for a loss of about $4,300.
  • A Scott Avenue resident reported that someone altered a check in the mail between April 3 and April 5 and cashed it for a loss of $3,700
  • IDENTITY THEFTS

    • A Woodland Avenue resident reported on April 3 that someone had used their identity to open an Ikea credit card and AT&T account between Feb. 21 and March 28.
    • Someone used the identity of a Pelham Road resident to apply for a loan from Transform Credit on or before April 5. Police were told on April 6.
    • A Linden Street resident reported on April 16 that someone had intercepted a check and made additional unauthorized transactions from their bank account for an unspecified loss exceeding $5,000.

    ARRESTS/CITATIONS

    Gobind Singh, 45, of the 2000 block of Ridge Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 2 p.m. on April 7 and charged with disorderly conduct after police got a complaint that someone was being disorderly in the 300 block of Sheridan Road. Police said he lunged toward a person on a public sidewalk and spit onto a witness' car.

    Matthew Gavin, 26, of the 700 block of Park Drive, Kenilworth, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on April 13 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 100 block of Thorntree Lane. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, improper use of a turn signal, disobeying a stop sign and operating a vehicle with expired registration.


    NORTHFIELD

    INCIDENTS

    FRAUD
    A Meadowview Drive resident reported on March 27 that someone had recently carried out $1,200 worth of unauthorized online account transactions.

    CAR BURGLARY
    Someone burglarized a car left unlocked in a driveway in the 200 block of Lockwood Avenue between 5:30 p.m. April 2 and 7:50 a.m. on April 3.

    SHOPLIFTING
    Staff at the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, reported around 3:30 p.m. on April 3 that an unidentified male person had just stolen several items and left before police arrived. Police eventually found the stolen items and returned them to the store, where the manager did not wish to press charges.

    CREDIT CARD FRAUD
    A West Frontage Road resident reported on April 3 that someone had charged their credit card about $278 without authorization in mid-2022.

    OFFICE BUILDING BAN
    Police were called to an office building at 181 Waukegan Road around 1 p.m. on April 4 for a report of an unwanted person. Officers issued a trespassing warning to the person who had reportedly caused a disturbance while refusing to leave, and they eventually did.

    IDENTITY THEFTS

    • An Arbor Lane resident reported on March 30 that someone had recently made an unsuccessful attempt to open an online credit account with their identity.
    • A Lockwood Avenue resident reported on April 4 that someone had recently tried unsuccessfully to make an unauthorized $12,000 withdrawal from their bank account.

    CHECK FRAUD

    • A Country Lane resident reported on March 28 that someone had intercepted a check, altered it and cashed it without authorization for an unspecified loss.
    • Several checks mailed by a Sunset Drive resident never reached their intended destinations, and at least one of them was altered and cashed for an unspecified loss prior to March 29.
    • A Dickens Street resident reported on April 10 that someone had intercepted, altered and cashed several checks that they had mailed in recent weeks for an unspecified loss.
    • A Dickens Road resident reported on April 10 that someone had intercepted, altered and cashed several checks that they had mailed in recent weeks for an unspecified loss.

    ARRESTS

    Ulrick Jeanty Jr., 34, of the 2500 block of West Washington Boulevard, Chicago, was indicted Feb. 27 and arrested March 27 on eight counts of home invasion, four counts of armed robbery, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint, two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm, one count of residential burglary and one count of armed habitual criminal in connection with a Dec. 9, 2021, incident in the 200 block of South Happ Road. Patch has requested further information about the incident that led to the charges, which will be added when received.

    Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Vega, 38, of the first block of North Branch Road, Northfield, was arrested around 4 p.m. on April 16 and charged with battery in connection with an incident at Stormy's Tavern, 1735 Orchard Lane. Police were told he was an employee of the bar and struck a fellow staffer there the prior day.
