New Trier Township Municipalities Prepare For Severe Weather

Officials from many local jurisdictions participated in an exercise to ensure preparedness in the event of severe weather emergencies.

WILMETTE, IL — Last week, municipalities in New Trier Township met to participate in an exercise focused on local emergency response to severe weather.

Led by the Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security, the table top exercise specifically designed for the region to enhance preparedness and strengthen response and recovery efforts. Staff members from the administrative, public safety, public works and community development departments from each municipality were in attendance.

Throughout the exercise, each community worked through complex scenarios where decision-making, coordination and integration is required both internally and in cooperation with other jurisdictions.

"Each municipality prioritizes its emergency preparedness, community resiliency and operational effectiveness, It is important to regularly review and practice our respective Emergency Operations Plans beyond the operations of our first responders, to ensure a smooth response and recovery mission in the event of a real emergency requiring action by an entire organization," officials said in a statement.

"We are each grateful to have worked alongside our neighbors and partners in New Trier Township during the course of this exercise, many of which can and have been relied upon for support and resources in emergency responses."
