Helen R. Rubens, née Rosenberg, 103, of Wilmette, IL. Beloved wife of the late Richard H. Rubens; loving mother of Thomas and Richard (Linda) Rubens; treasured grandmother of Brian (Heather) and Jeffrey (Jessica) Rubens; proud great-grandmother of Evelyn, Henry, Theodore, Alexander, and Lucas; caring sister of the late Charlotte R. Bluth; cherished close friend of Karen Jennings. Helen was a devoted member and treasurer of the Alliance Française du North Shore. That francophile interest led Helen to develop a passion for travel. Her foreign adventures were as far flung as Mount Everest, the Great Barrier Reef, Antarctica, and everywhere in between, but she always returned to Paris. She shared her love for travel with her grandchildren who had the good fortune to be her occasional travel companions. In addition to world travel, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, Helen also had a life-long love of gardening, which she expressed in the always beautiful backyard of the home she lived in for more than 80 years in the Kenilworth Gardens neighborhood of Wilmette and her long patronage of the Chicago Botanic Gardens. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chicago Botanic Gardens.
