She may be new to Wilmette, but Mary Liz has a strong background in parks and recreation, coming to us from Lisle Park District where she spent the last seven years of her professional career. “I supervised general recreation programs, before & after school, summer camps, special events, the fitness center and programming, as well as the aquatic park,” she explains. Her background also includes a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sport and Tourism from University of Illinois, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Northern Illinois University.

Having supervised so many fields of recreation, Mary Liz was ready to share her experience with other supervisors, and apply her knowledge towards managing multiple departments. “One of the things that attracts me to this position is the wide variety of recreation programs that the Wilmette Park District offers,” she explains, “there is truly something for everyone here!”

Excited for the opportunity to lead the recreation staff, Mary Liz is working with her team and planning for a busy summer season. “We look forward to taking another step towards normal with our summer camps, and offering lots of opportunities for summer fun.” Stay tuned for details about summer camps – information will be posted online on February 22.

Mary Liz has a passion for recreation, and this comes through in both her work and her free time. She is a fitness instructor and can be found early in the morning, kickstarting the day with a kickboxing class. She also enjoys reading a good book in the summer sun, or trying out new restaurants. Be sure to introduce yourself the next time you see her at the Community Recreation Center.
