Wilmette Student Wins State Championship In Rhythmic Gymnastics
Alexia Smith won the 11-year-old, Level 6 all-around competition at the Illinois Rhythmic Gymnastics State Championships in Homer Glen.

Alexia Smith of Wilmette just brought another title to the North Shore. Alexia is a 5th grader at High Crest Middle School and just won the 11 year old, level 6 all around competition in the Illinois Rhythmic Gymnastics State Championships. In the two day event held in Homer Glen, Il over the weekend, competitors are required to complete four exercises to qualify for the all around. The events are Floor, Rope, Hoop and Ribbon and are scored by difficulty of exercise.
Alexia finished the competition with two first place victories in Hoop and Ribbon and two second place victories in Floor and Rope. Her scores led the pack to the podium as the Over All State Champion for 2022.
“I had so much fun and all the practice paid off. My teammates performed awesome and we really support each other and that makes it fun! We have super great coaches at North ShoreRhythmic-Tonya and Natasha rock and keep us focused, and so does my mom, she’s the best.”
