Wilmette Woman Pinned by Fallen Tree While Walking Dog
The woman is in good condition; the dog is unhurt.

A Wilmette woman who was walking her dog Monday morning was pinned by a tree that fell on her at the corner of Greenleaf Avenue and 5th Street, police said.
The tree, a 100- to 120-year-old white oak, fell across the sidewalk just before 8 a.m., police said. The woman, whose name is not being released, was trapped under the branches.
Officers and bystanders were able to lift and pull back the branches so the woman could get free. She was taken to Evanston Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is in good condition, police said. Her dog was not hurt and is being cared for by a neighbor.

The tree appears to have had a large area of decay in its stem that created a hidden hollow, police said. It’s not known what caused it to fall, though the recent storm may have triggered it.
