WILMETTE, IL — The date is set for the return of THE Wilmette Block Party, the much-anticipated new annual tradition launched in 2021 as part of the village's sesquicentennial celebration.

Organized by the Wilmette Park District in partnership with the village and the Wilmette/Kenilworth Chamber of Commerce, this year's festivities are scheduled to run from noon to 10 p.m. on Sept. 7 in the Village Center.

Bringing together families, friends and neighbors on the Sunday after Labor Day, the party promises music, food, drinks and all-ages activities during a day of fun and community.

Lindsay Thomas, the superintendent of operations for the Wilmette Park District, said in a statement that district officials were eager to plan a third edition of the party.

"We began planning for this year’s event as soon as last year’s ended. We’ll bring back some community favorites and have an amazing headlining band we will announce soon," Thomas said.

The festivities will take place on Wilmette and Central Avenues as well as the Village Green, with representatives of local businesses hoping that it will bring increased traffic to shops and restaurants.

The event also offers opportunities for local businesses and residents to get involved through sponsorship, donations or volunteering, incentives for which include a custom volunteer shirt, a special gift and a pair of drink tickets for those over 21.

Organizers said they plan to reveal more details of the event in June.

"I am so thrilled to call the Block Party an annual tradition," Village President Senta Plinkett siad in a statement. "The event has something for everyone – it is such a wonderful celebration that brings families, friends, and neighbors together.”
