Library Chooses 2013 'One Book Two Villages' Pick

'Gone Girl' by Gillian Flynn has been selected as the 2013 Winnetka-Northfield Library 'One Book Two Villages' selection.

'Gone Girl' by Gillian Flynn - one of the top-selling books of 2012 - has been selected as the 2013 'One Book Two Villages' pick by the Winnetka-Northfield Library. 'Liar and Spy' by Rebecca Steid has been selected as the children's book.

The pick, which was announced in a special unveiling at the Winnetka library on Wednesday, is the tenth book in the "One Book Two Villages" program, which aims to get both Winnetka and Northfield reading and talking about the same book. The library partners with area businesses and organizations to promote the book, and also holds a series of events related to the topic of the book. The authors will also come give a lecture at the library.

"I know I've found a good selection when I can't forget the book and I can't get it out of my head," said Juli Janovicz, the interim library director, during the unveiling. Janovicz also noted that the book was especially tied to the community since part of it was actually written within the walls of the Winnetka library.

"It's a year-long process that never ends," Janovicz said about the selecting of the pick, which the whole library staff is involved with. "You eat, sleep and dream 'One Book Two Villages'. When it finishes one year, it starts again for the next one!"

Flynn will be speaking at the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library on May 2 on "The Art of Constructing a Thriller." You can also enter to win an April lunch with the author on the library's website here.
