Lincolnwood Woman Injures State Trooper In Edens Expressway Crash
The Friday night crash marked the fifth injury to an Illinois State Trooper in a Scott's Law violation in the first three months of 2023.

NORTHFIELD, IL — A state trooper was injured when a motorist smashed into the passenger side of a squad car Friday on the Edens Expressway, authorities said.
The trooper had parked a squad car blocking off flooded lanes of the southbound lanes of the expressway near Tower Road with active emergency lights, according to state police.
Shortly after 8:15 p.m., the driver of a Jeep failed to move over for the emergency lights and crashed into the side of the squad car with the trooper inside, state police said.

Scott's Law, also known as the "Move Over Law," requires drivers to slow down and move over when they approach emergency vehicles, or any vehicles with emergency or hazard lights active.
A violation of the law carries a fine of up to $10,000 for a first offense. And if the violation results in someone getting injured, the driver's license is suspended for a minimum of six months and up to two years, according to state police.
Last year, there were 25 crashes involving state troopers and violations of Scott's Law, with eight causing injuries, according to state police data.
Friday's Northfield Township crash is the ninth of the first quarter of 2023 and the fifth to injure a trooper.
