Flooding Delays Opening of Borizov Trial for Darien Murders

The closing of the DuPage County Judicial Center due to high water has pushed the start of the trial to next week.

The trial of Johnny Borizov, 32, of Willow Springs, for orchestrating the March 2010 murder of Darien residents Jeffrey, Lori and Michael Kramer, has been delayed until Tuesday, April 23 due to Thursday’s heavy rain and flooding, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the paper, the flooding closed off the DuPage County Judicial Center and prompted presiding judge Daniel Guerin to postpone the opening of the trial all the way to next week to allow jurors to deal with any “water-related issues.”

Jury was selected Wednesday, but alternates still need to be selected, the paper said.

The Kramers were shot to death in March 2010 by Jacob Nodarse in a scheme, prosecutors allege, plotted by Borizov and meant to kill Angela Kramer, daughter of Jeffrey and Lori, sister of Michael, and father of Borizov's son.

Angela Kramer was in the house at the time and survived by hiding in a closet and dialing 911, officials have said.

Nodarse pled guilty in 2011 to a single murder count in a deal with prosecutors to secure his testimony against Borizov. Nodarse faces a minimum of 45 years in prison when he is eventually sentenced after testifying.
