Meet Woodridge Park District's Coach of the Year Tom Senne

Senne, 45, a father of two, beat out five other contestants nominated for the honor.

Woodridge resident Tom Senne was named the Woodridge Park District's 2012 Coach of the Year in March, over five other nominated coaches, an honor that the 45-year-old basketball and softball coach and father of two is relishing, the Suburban Life reports.

"It really is a nice honor for me," Senne told the paper. "I have been doing this for quite awhile now, and I have seen other coaches who have won the same award. And it really is a bigger deal than I thought it would be."

According to the paper, the Coach of the Year honorific began a few years ago to recognize coaches to go above and beyond just "teach[ing] the X's and O's of the game;" Senne, who grew up loving sports, decided to continue coaching even when his daughters aged out of playing.
