SEASPAR provides services for individuals with disabilities.

Editor's note: The following is a press release from the Woodridge Park District.

resident Michael Drabik was selected as the South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation’s 2012 Athlete of the Year.

The criteria for this award is not solely based on athletic ability, of which Michael has plenty. The athlete must also be a team player, be positive, demonstrate leadership, dedicate himself to ongoing improvement, and represent himself and his team in an admirable fashion. Michael does all of those things every day.

His most recent accomplishment was winning the pentathlon at the Illinois Special Olympics Summer Games at Illinois State University. Not only was he top in the state, but he also won by an impressive margin. The pentathlon includes the shot put, 100 meter run, 400 meter run, running long jump, and high jump. Furthermore, Michael is a Global Messenger for Special Olympics. In addition to track and field, Michael plays on a basketball team, sings in the SEASPAR choir and enjoys dancing with his friends.

Michael was recognized at the board meeting on July 10 for the award and his accomplishments.
