Snow Delays Garbage Pickup In Yorkville, Oswego, Montgomery

Plus information on power outages and snowfall totals.

PLAINFIELD, IL —After a blizzard dumped as much as 11 inches of snow in some parts of Illinois, many school districts announced closings for Monday, while some towns said garbage pickup would be delayed due to the winter storm:

As of around 6 a.m. Monday, area towns and police departments were reporting these conditions on the roads:

  • Village of Oswego: "Please be aware that Plainfield Road is currently closed between Collins Road and Schlapp Road due to downed live power lines on the roadway. The road will remain closed until Comed is able to respond."
  • United City of Yorkville: "Galena Road between Route 47 and Rosenwinkel is temporarily closed due to a power line in the roadway."
  • Joliet police (4:40 a.m.): "The traffic signals at the intersection of E Laraway Rd & S Chicago St are currently out. Police are on scene until the electric company can respond to correct the issue. As a reminder, a blacked-out traffic signaled intersection is to be treated as a 4-way stop."
  • Plainfield police: "All roadways are passable but snow packed. High winds reduce visibility in some areas. If you can delay your travel until later this morning please do. If you must travel please set aside extra time and drive with due caution."

ComEd said more than 169,000 customers in the state were without power as of around 6 a.m., including:

  • 1,350 in Plano

Trash pickup delays

Plus, the Village of Oswego, Village of Montgomery and United City of Yorkville said garbage pickup would be delayed by one day this week.

Leaf collection in Oswego was also temporarily suspended, the village said: "Crews have completed two rounds of leaf collection and were working on the third and final collection in Zone A on Sunday morning before switching equipment on trucks for snow plowing. Crews plan to resume leaf collection for any remaining homes in Zone A, and for a third and final round in Zones B and C, once the snow melts from the leaves."

School closings

In Kendall County, these schools and districts are closed Monday, according to the Emergency Closing Center:

  • Yorkville CUSD 115
  • CUSD 308
  • Cross Lutheran School, Yorkville
  • Plano CUSD 88
  • St. Luke's Christian Academy, Montgomery
  • Yorkville Christian High School
  • Parkview Christian Academy, Yorkville
  • The Heartland School, Yorkville
  • Peaceful Pathways Montessori, Yorkville

"Due to the severity of the predicted snowfall and blizzard conditions, school is canceled for tomorrow, Monday, November 26," Yorkville 115 district said in an alert. "This also includes the cancellation of all after school events and activities. Please expect school to resume on Tuesday."

The regular meeting of the District 115 Board of Education is still slated to be held tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in the Yorkville High School library.
