PLANO, IL — A man was sentenced to 10 years in Illinois prison, on top of a 50-year sentence in Wisconsin, for sexually assaulting a child in Plano in 2021, Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said Tuesday.

Reginald Hughes, 37, agreed to a plea and sentence before Judge Jody Gleason this week for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

The case stems back to June 2021 when a child under the age of 13 disclosed that a friend of a family member had sexually assaulted them while they stayed in Plano, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office. Plano police worked with Wisconsin law enforcement on the investigation and learned Hughes, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, had also sexually assaulted another child.

Charges were filed in December 2021, and Hughes was arrested and held in Wisconsin. The cases were tried in 2024, and Hughes was found guilty and sentenced to 50 years in prison. He was brought to Illinois earlier this year to await trial in Kendall County.

The new plea agreement requires Hughes to serve 85 percent of his 60-year total sentence before being eligible for mandatory supervised release. His sentences are required by law to be served consecutively, starting with the 50-year sentence in Wisconsin followed by the term in Illinois, officials said.

"Weis thanked the Plano Police Department and Wisconsin law enforcement for their collaborative efforts to bring a child predator to justice," the release reads. "Weis praised the courage of the victims in these cases."
