Sting Operation Catches 66-Year-Old Man Soliciting Sex From Teenager: Yorkville Police

The Sandwich man was charged with three felony offenses after investigators caught him during a proactive operation, officials said.

YORKVILLE, IL — A sting operation executed Wednesday by Yorkville police caught a Sandwich man soliciting sex from someone he believed was 16 years old, officials said Thursday.

Officers with the department's investigations division were conducting a proactive enforcement targeting the potential solicitation of minors when they made contact with Donald Baker, 66, who arranged to meet with the teenager, according to a news release.

Baker, of the 1000 block of East Sixth Street in Sandwich, traveled to Yorkville, where he was confronted by investigators and taken to the Kendall County jail. He was charged with three felony offenses: Traveling to meet a minor, grooming and two counts of indecent solicitation of a child.

As of Thursday morning, Baker was in custody pending the findings of a pretrial detention hearing scheduled for Thursday.

"The Yorkville Police Department continues to be committed to protecting the community and pursuing individuals who engage in crimes against children," officials said.
