Woman Smashes Car Windows Before Injuring Yorkville Officer: Cops

Yorkville residents called the police to report someone "actively smashing out" car windows Saturday evening, officials said.

YORKVILLE, IL — A Yorkville woman accused of smashing car windows Saturday night faces several charges after she also battered a police officer, officials said.

Police were called at about 5:42 p.m. Saturday to the 500 block of Yellowstone Lane after residents reported someone "actively smashing out" car windows.

Officers arrived and found Jessica Benca, 28, walking in the area carrying a large metal object, according to a news release. Police confronted Benca, who threw the object toward them after refusing multiple commands, officials said.

Benca became physically combative but was taken into custody after "a brief struggle" that resulted in one officer being injured, police said.

Benca, whose address is in the 2200 block of Alan Dale Lane, according to the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, was issued the following charges:

  • Aggravated battery to a police officer (felony)
  • Resisting a peace officer (felony)
  • Criminal damage to property (misdemeanor)
  • Criminal damage to state-supported property (misdemeanor)
  • Obstructing identification (misdemeanor)
  • Aggravated assault (misdemeanor)
  • Resisting arrest (misdemeanor)

Benca remains in custody as of Monday morning, according to jail logs.
