Car Crashes Into Perry Township School In South Indianapolis

PERRY TOWNSHIP, IN — A car crashed into a second grade classroom in a Perry Township school Monday morning, a Perry Township Schools spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

The incident occurred at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, and no students were in the classroom at the time. The driver, a minor passenger and the teacher in the classroom suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital, according to the school district.

The school closed for the day so officials could ensure the building was structurally sound. Class will resume Tuesday after it was determined the building was safe, according to the school district.

The car crashed through a window in the classroom, leaving a large whole in the wall and exposing the room. The second grade class will be provided an alternate location for class while the classroom is being boarded up and repaired, officials said.

The driver was a parent driving their child to school, and photos show a large hole in the outside wall to the classroom with desks and chairs knocked over, according to a report from NBC Indianapolis.

Perry Township police are investigating the incident, according to the school district.
