Chatard HS grad excels in photography
The prestigious Hearst Journalism Awards honors the photo work of 2023 Chatard alumna Charley Szydlyk
A prestigious national journalism competition has recognized the photography work of 2023 Bishop Chatard High School graduate Charley Szydlyk.
Szydlyk placed seventh in the Hearst Journalism Awards’ Picture Story/Series category. College students from 52 schools submitted entries. Click here to view Szydlyk’s winning entry, Beyond the Court: OHIO Men’s Basketball Brotherhood.
“Thank you to the Ohio University men’s basketball program for allowing me to tell the story of their 2024-2025 basketball season,” said Szydlyk.

Szydlyk is completing her sophomore year at Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication.
Her photo project on the men’s basketball team was for a class assignment. Szydlyk works for Ohio University’s Athletic Department, which has used some of her basketball photos.

On April 23, Szydlyk was awarded a scholarship at a spring awards event hosted by Ohio University’s College of Communication.
